The choice of "artificial intelligence" as the word of the year 2023 demonstrates the significant impact that this technology has on us, the economy and society. As a specialist in artificial intelligence, vice-dean for education at the Faculty of Management of Lublin University of Technology, and also co-creator of the first field of study in Poland called "Artificial Intelligence in Business", I believe that this distinction highlights the growing role of AI in various areas of life. The very enigmatic nature of this concept and its dynamic development, as well as the need of society to explore this topic and the threats associated with it, mean that artificial intelligence has become very popular in the media.

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we make decisions, manage data and innovate. In the business sector, it opens new opportunities for data analysis, service personalization and process automation. Lublin University of Technology realized the importance of this concept before it was fashionable, when Faculty of Management decided to create a modern field of study called "Artificial Intelligence in Business". We teach students how to use and create artificial intelligence and machine learning tools in business while maintaining at the same time ethical standards and taking into account legal dilemmas related to intellectual property.

Choosing the word artificial intelligence as the word of the year is also a moment of reflection on how this phenomenon will change and shape us as a society. We must pay attention to issues of privacy, data security, the potential impact of AI on the labor market and the development of young people. The word of the year is not only a reflection of current trends, but also a reminder of the responsibility we carry as educators, researchers and practitioners in shaping a future in which artificial intelligence should, and I hope will, serve the common good.
