The Department’s research activities focus on key aspects of the functioning and development of enterprises, with particular emphasis on the SME sector in the context of globalisation, local development and the institutionalisation of business, which contributes to increasing the competitiveness of economic entities and the effective financing of business ventures. Research covers inter-organisational management, analysing the dynamics of change in relations and cooperation between economic entities (with particular attention paid to start-ups, examining lean start-up methods, design thinking and customer development).   An important area of focus is human capital in enterprises, with an emphasis on soft management factors such as knowledge and trust. It also deals with the management of environmental resources at the local level. These areas integrate theory with practice, supporting innovation in management.

The teaching activities led by the Department’s staff cover the following subject areas. The functioning of SMEs, business project management and innovation management form the core teaching module. An introduction to the labour market and business activity prepares students for practical challenges. Logistics, transport, economic policy, international economic and political relations, and economic history integrate interdisciplinary knowledge. Start-ups are analysed using lean start-up, design thinking and customer development methodologies. Business financing discusses mechanisms for raising capital. Micro- and macroeconomics, as well as managerial economics, provide analytical tools. The economic and legal aspects of integration with the European Union highlight the European context. Investment activity within the framework of sustainable development emphasises environmental responsibility. The fundamentals of law, entrepreneurship and business ethics shape ethical attitudes in management.

Among other activities, the Department runs the Managers’ Research Society (KNM). The society teaches teamwork, group work and mutual support, but above all it enables students to acquire practical organisational skills. Members of the society actively participate in all classes, activities and events organised both within the Faculty and externally. Every year, they organise an International Scientific Symposium for students and young researchers.

Staff members of the Department are experts for various institutions, organisations and projects of national and international scope (PARP, Ministry of Investment and Development), members of scientific societies (TNOiK, PTE, NTIE), in which they hold active positions on the governing bodies, and reviewers for journals in the field of management.
